Park Week in Tottenham Hale
By Robert Bridge of British Twitter News
This week is 'Park Week' and this post is about my local park at the bottom of the street. The community I live in is based between Tottenham Hale and Seven Sister's Tube Station. The park is also not far form Bruce Grove train station; all of which are situated in North London's town Tottenham. Tottenham has become a very cosmopolitan area as London gains closer to the arrival of the 2012 Olympics. Much of the design and building structures are being improved and the people who work in London are very lucky to have so many forms of transport into central London. This includes over-ground and underground trains, buses and of course the good old Hackney Cabs. Chesnut Road is one of the more leisurely sides of Tottenham's busy street life, you will expect to see Squirrels, well behaved dogs and extremely clean streets. All around the walk towards the Park there are Tree's planted. In-fact not far away the Street 'Seven Sisters' was originally named after seven tree's planted in the area in Victorian times. The park itself is great, they do football training there, and have a decent enough arrangement of flowers in their beds and a play area for the kids. The play area has just been nominated for improvement, this funding is going towards new more up to date rides for the kids. The great thing about the park is it's free and it is big enough for any outside recreation activity. I like to go jogging through the park it's only down the road and to escape the hussle and bussle of the city having a park just down the road is really helpful. The park is managed by the local Haringey council and it has been for many years, only as already mentioned the park is set to be revamped in the next few months. This will be great not just for locals like myself and the elderly (there is an old peoples home on Chesnut Road) it will be really good news for the kids. Just opposite the park is a children's school play-group. They can just go straight opposite the road and into the park. Recently our street organised a campaign to stop the movement of this school, and we are also set to help in any way we can with helping the old people's home on Chesnut Road not to be closed down because many of the residents who lived there have lived on this street for years. THe relocation of it's tenant's is not a good idea, especially when they are used to living in such a neighbourly part of Tottenham. The same again goes for the children's play-group. It was suggested the school should pack up and leave to move further awy from park near the tipping area in Tottenham. It was unaminimously agreed that this type of thing should not occur, especially during Park week and the added reality of so much investment going into the refurbishment of an already well used park. It would be a shame to see all this type of investment to go to waste, and moving kids next door to a tip was unquestionably the wrong decision. This we are currently protesting against and I'm sure will be successful in our campaigns within CARAN17.
